Depois de conquistar o 3° lugar na Copa Paraná o time está focado para o futuro
O time de futebol americano da cidade de Ponta Grossa mais conhecido como Phatoms foi fundado em 2009 e disputava várias competições estaduais, mas infelizmente o projeto chegou ao fim em 2013. Após nove anos o projeto retornou este ano com um novo elenco, formado pela velha guarda e por outros selecionados em seletivas que ocorreram ao longo do ano.
O rendimento da equipe foi ótimo, pois, voltaram a treinar em meados de abril. “Em poucos meses a gente já foi para um campeonato com equipes que já jogavam muito tempo juntas, que estavam na ativa antes da gente, e conseguimos o terceiro lugar, então eu achei muito produtivo esse ano nessa competição que teve a Copa Paraná” fala o diretor esportivo, Daniel Dias, sobre o rendimento da equipe durante o ano.
Ano que vem a equipe tem como objetivo algo maior, que é competir no Paranaense. “É uma competição um pouco mais difícil, por contar com mais times e ser a competição do ano na Federação Paranaense Futebol Americano. Então, nosso objetivo é entrar no Paranaense, entrar forte, brigar por título, e daí para o final do ano, talvez, dependendo a gente entrar ou no Brasileiro, ou novamente na Copa Paraná”, explica Daniel Dias.
No dia 11 de dezembro acontecerá o tryout, o qual é uma seletiva para compor o elenco do time para a temporada de 2023. Nele são aplicados testes físicos nos atletas, para ver se eles têm condições de estar praticando futebol americano, sendo um esporte de contato físico constante. Os treinos da equipe vão até o dia 17 de dezembro, depois os atletas entram em férias e voltam no dia 14 de janeiro de 2023.
Vale lembrar que as regas do futebol americano jogado aqui não são as mesmas da NFL e sim do College, mais conhecido como futebol americano universitário nos Estados Unidos, o qual é a regra da Federação Internacional de Futebol Americano (IFAF), órgão que rege o futebol americano mundial.
