Por que pilhas e baterias devem ser descartadas corretamente?

A desatenção na hora do descarte pode ressaltar em várias complicações

Na composição de pilhas e baterias são encontrados diversos tipos de metais pesados que são extremamente perigosos a saúde humana, além de representarem riscos de contaminação do solo e da água, dependendo do lugar onde forem descartados. Por isso é importante na hora de se livrar das pilhas e baterias não jogar junto com o lixo comum.

O correto é levar estes tipos de resíduos a um ponto de coleta próprio. Em Ponta Grossa há vários locais, geralmente localizados em supermercados como Tozetto, Condor e Atacadão. Outros pontos de coleta podem ser consultados em um próprio site que a prefeitura disponibiliza.

Algumas pessoas tem o hábito de descartar estes resíduos. “ Eu descarto pilhas e baterias pelo menos uma ou duas vezes ao ano, dependendo da quantidade que tenho separado em casa, pois uso bastante o rádio a pilha que tenho em casa e o controle da tv, mesmo que seja uma pequena atitude eu sei que faz diferença“, diz Antônio de Paula.

Geralmente estes resíduos são repassados aos fabricantes ou importadoras. As pilhas e baterias podem ser recicladas, reutilizadas, ou podem passar por algum tipo de tratamento que possibilite um descarte não nocivo ao meio ambiente.

As substâncias que estão dentro das pilhas e baterias se acumulam na natureza por não serem biodegradáveis, ou seja, elas não se decompõem por isso o alerta do descarte que se não for feito corretamente tem o perigo dos resíduos serem amassados ou estourados deixando vazar o liquido toxico.

Algumas dicas podem ser usadas para aumentar a vida útil das pilhas e baterias como nunca guardar em lugares expostos ao calor, isso ajuda a evitar vazamentos e sempre que possível optar por pilhas e baterias recarregáveis, pois tem mais durabilidade e dá uma ajudinha na preservação do meio ambiente.
